Robert Englund Delivers Chills in Fear Clinic- UPDATED

According to Dr. Andover, “Fear is the little death that consumes you.”

In the webseries, Fear Clinic, Andover, played by the great Robert Englund, who spoke to HorrorCrush recently, is so determined to cure phobias that he forces all of his patients to hallucinate their worst nightmares.  But when the line between reality and fantasy gets blurred and the patients’ fears begin manifesting in the real world, how much farther will Andover go?

Just in time for Halloween, Fear Clinic has premiered on Fear Net this week with new webisodes every day until the finale on Friday.  All of the webisodes are short, around six to seven minutes long, and cover each patient’s fears.  Unfortunately, given the nature of the medium, it’s hard to get enough grasp of the characters to care about them and some of the scares, particularly in the first episode, are predictable.

On the other hand, the best and scariest installment was today’s, in which Jackie (Kate Nauta) confronts her fear of insects, which manifests when bugs start harvesting from pores around her body.  The result is disgusting, yet rendered frighteningly real by the makeup and visual effects teams.

While Englund, whose character becomes creepier scene after scene, is definitely the highlight of the show,   the cast features other recognizable horror veterans.

Danielle Harris, from Rob Zombie’s Halloween films, plays Susan, a young woman afraid of the dark who may have a chance to escape the clinic.  And Jason Voorhees actor Kane Hodder has a supporting role as Villatoro, an orderly and ex-con at the clinic.

“Ready to confront your worst fears?”

UPDATED: The finale has arrived and, unfortunately, resolves little of the storyline and reveals nothing new about Englund or Harris’s characters.  While the five webisodes introduce an intriguing concept, it’s hard to find the story satisfying.

All Fear Clinic webisodes are written by Aaron R. Drake and can be viewed at Fear Net:
