When I was a 16 year old and reading Dante’s The Divine Comedy in my high school English class, I was playing a lot of video games. Nothing against Dante, but it’s safe to say that Half Life and The Legend of Zelda had a more profound effect on my intellectual upbringing than he did. Luckily, we have sunk so comfortably deep into the digital age that I’m going to be able to brush up on my classical literature in the form of bold new video game.
Next week Visceral Games and Electronic Arts are set to release Dante’s Inferno, wherein the player will have to overcome tortured, demonic souls as he embarks through the many lands of the dead. Buzz has grown in the recent months about the game with its creative modes of storytelling and it’s conscience attempt to push the Mature rating to its limit. I wouldn’t expect a faithful adaptation to the source material by any means, but this is certainly one of the more intriguing titles of the year thus far. You can read a review of the game at the link below and play it for yourself of February 9th.
