Burton & Bekmambetov to Produce ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’

Seth Grahame-Smith’s perversely hilarious literary mash-ups have been destined for a Hollywood adaptation since their inception. The ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ author is crafts the kind of sharp, original and, most importantly, violent content that should have Studio execs drooling at the sheer utterance of one of his titles. With a relatively strong and affluent fan base of readers, Grahame-Smith might be able to shake superfans of the ‘Harry Potter’ or ‘Twilight’ variety by propelling his more mature material into the forefront multiplexes…. and he seems to be well on his way.

It was just announced that his latest addition to the book shelf, ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’, is to be produced by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov who most recently came together to get behind the animated post-apocalyptic fable ‘9′. ‘Lincoln’ unveils the story of our 16th presidents secret battle with the undead; a longstanding tour of vengeance he has lead since the murder of his mother.

The project is just barely into the preproduction stages, but the quick decision to option the novel and get this kind of talent behind is a great sign that AL:VH will see the light of day sooner or later. Whether or not the film will be animated or live-action is still a mystery, but some insiders theorize it will be done in the same vain as ‘9′. Until the verdict is final, it’s a curious thought that Steven Spielberg’s long-rumored Lincoln biopic may get beaten to the punch. Perhaps (and it’s a long shot) the movie mogul will take the directors chair on this project instead and sink his fangs into some darker (albeit tongue-in-cheek) territory.
